SHIELD relaunched with a new website on 27 October 2026 and became the third STROS partnership, joining Duvo.ai and Fettle. Ross Eggleton and Jason Greenspan are introducing its founders to businesses that run fleets as part of a bigger operation, in utilities, construction, facilities, field and trade services and merchants, where driving is part of the job rather than the job itself.
What SHIELD does
SHIELD connects to the tracking, cameras and tacho already on a fleet's vehicles and joins them up with licence checks and the insurer's claims data, with no new hardware. Every driver gets one picture behind one login, filtered by depot. What SHIELD finds goes to the people who can act on it:
- The driver gets a check-in on the SHIELD app while a change in their driving is still small, can rate every plain-English message and hears a well done when they improve. The app also gives them a simple way to report an incident at the roadside.
- The fleet manager and the office see which drivers need attention this week and why, with each driver's history in one place.
- The insurer, broker or repair network has each incident within minutes, with photos, third-party details and a licence check attached.
- The operator can show its insurer the process behind its figures at renewal.
Driver Influence, the part of SHIELD that checks in with drivers when their pattern starts to change, is running for every customer. SHIELD is built for whoever carries the fleet's risk, whether that's the head of fleet, the SHEQ lead or the finance director who owns the insurance. It works for hauliers and transport operators as well as commercial fleets.
What it's shown
Orkin runs about 280 vans in pest control and facilities. Its fleet team used to log in to three systems and keep a spreadsheet to see the full picture of any driver. It now starts from SHIELD's combined picture, filtered by depot, and goes into each system only for the detail. Since Orkin started using SHIELD:
- 3.3 a monthClaims, from about 6 a month.
- £2,100Average claim, from roughly £3,600, which is about 42 per cent lower.
- 56%Loss ratio, from 84%, which gives Orkin a stronger position heading into renewal.
Those figures come from one fleet and aren't a promise that every fleet will match them.
"I couldn't possibly run the fleet the way we do now without SHIELD. It just wouldn't happen."Nathalie Gager, Group Fleet Manager, Orkin
Why STROS chose it
Every STROS partnership starts from a problem an operator already has. SHIELD starts where an operator's week starts: with the drivers who need a conversation and the time nobody has to have it. Most systems stop at the data, which leaves the driver manager contacting each driver by hand in the same week everything else goes wrong. SHIELD itself checks in with the driver, welfare first, so that conversation still happens.
Between them its founders have helped run a family haulier, sat on the board of the Road Haulage Association and worked in transport software, telematics and motor insurance, so SHIELD arrives knowing how a transport office works.
"The question every board asks after a serious incident is this: what did we know and what did we do about it? SHIELD brings together what the systems a fleet already runs are saying about each driver, so you've a better answer to give. The part I care about most is the driver, though: spotting the change early, talking to the person and backing them to get it right. However big the fleet, the measure for me is the same: everyone gets home safely at the end of every shift."Ross Eggleton FCILT, Founder and Managing Director, STROS Partnerships
What STROS built
STROS started working with SHIELD in September 2026. With Richard Bird, Ben Peters and Steven Zwinkels, STROS smartened the SHIELD brand rather than replacing it, then wrote the messaging, built the new website and planned the launch, along with the material that carries SHIELD into a first conversation with an operator. Everything on the site was held to one rule Richard set early on.
"Everything we're putting out there, someone could ask to look at today and I can show them it."Richard Bird, Founder and Commercial Director, SHIELD
All three STROS seats have a part in it. Ross Eggleton decided STROS would back it, Dan Ward led the brand, the website and the launch, and Jason Greenspan takes it to the heads of fleet, SHEQ leads and finance directors he knows.
About SHIELD
SHIELD is fleet risk and claims software for businesses that run vans and trucks. Steven Zwinkels, Ben Peters and Richard Bird founded it in 2024, with more than 30 years in transport, technology and insurance between them. Steven worked his way from planner to director in his family's haulage business and was a director of the Road Haulage Association. Ben has worked in telematics and motor insurance, where he saw how hard it is to get incident details to the insurer. Richard spent 12 years at a leading transport management system provider, working with operators to bring in technology and take out manual work. SHIELD is a Silver Associate member of the Road Haulage Association. Its website is shieldmyfleet.com.
